Air & Steam Stripping Systems

Air and steam stripping systems for contaminated water and process liquors

ERG designs air and steam stripping systems to remove inorganic contaminants and VOCs from polluted water and process liquors, making them suitable for reuse or compliant discharge. Using packed tower and V‑tex® technologies, volatile compounds are transferred from the liquid phase into an air or steam stripping gas for subsequent treatment.

Stripping inorganic contaminants and VOCs

As well as stripping inorganic contaminants from water streams, ERG has experience of removing VOCs from polluted water. A recent example is at a UK oil reprocessing refinery, where raw water contaminated with a mixture of VOCs including BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene) is fed to ERG’s stripper operating with air at ambient temperature. The BTEX removal efficiency from the water stream is up to 99.8%, allowing the treated water to be reused on the site.

The contaminated air may be discharged to atmosphere if the site emissions permit allows, or the VOCs can be removed from the air stream using thermal oxidation, activated carbon adsorption or other VOC abatement methods.

For water‑stream stripping or process degassing applications, ERG can configure air or steam stripping systems using packed towers or V‑tex® equipment to meet specific contaminant removal requirements. Contact ERG’s process sales team to discuss your application.
