Hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) scrubbing and odour control
ERG has been treating hydrogen sulphide (H₂S) in polluted gas streams for more than 40 years, with experience spanning waste, chemical and many other industrial sectors. We supply H₂S scrubbing systems based on packed tower scrubbers using alkaline scrubbing liquors, as well as biological scrubbing and carbon filtration solutions for odour control in the waste and wastewater industries. Typical H₂S scrubbing and odour control applications
ERG has delivered H₂S removal systems across a wide range of duties, including:
- Sulphonated acid‑gas scrubbing from process extraction – treatment of H₂S‑containing acid gases from LEV systems and process reactors in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and fine chemicals industries, using packed towers or V‑tex® scrubbers, often supplied as skid‑mounted packages.
- H₂S capture from biogas – removal of hydrogen sulphide from biogas generated in anaerobic digestion processes, for both municipal waste and sewage sludge in the wastewater industry. H₂S removal forms part of gas sweetening to protect downstream compressors and gas engines, and to limit SO₂ emissions in the final flue gas.
- Syngas treatment in renewable energy – scrubbing H₂S as part of syngas cleaning trains in renewable energy generation schemes.
- Odour control packages for wastewater treatment – H₂S and reduced‑sulphur odour control for wastewater treatment in many sectors, including large municipal plants, local effluent treatment plants (ETPs) on chemical, pharmaceutical and automotive manufacturing sites, and smaller ETPs in residential or tourist resorts.
These solutions combine appropriate wet scrubbing, biological treatment and dry media polishing to meet site‑specific H₂S emission and odour targets while minimising operating cost.
