Ammonium Sulphate Manufacture

For processes generating significant quantities of ammonia (NH₃) in the vent gas, ERG designs scrubbing systems that convert this ammonia into ammonium sulphate ((NH₄)₂SO₄) fertiliser using V‑tex® scrubbers operating with sulphuric acid solutions.

Ammonia scrubbing into ammonium sulphate

ERG has experience scrubbing ammonia‑bearing vent gases into dilute sulphuric acid solution to make >25% ammonium sulphate ((NH₄)₂SO₄) solution suitable for sale as fertiliser. The robust V‑tex® scrubber design operates efficiently with viscous, high‑density scrubbing liquors and allows efficient operation with concentrated salt solutions, enabling the effluent stream to be controlled to a high (NH₄)₂SO₄ concentration.

This minimises the water content, reduces effluent volumes and maximises the revenue stream available from the liquid product. Where higher concentrations are required, the ammonium sulphate solution can be further concentrated using an evaporator.
